World Cup Soccer?

Some games have different names. An example is that Ninja Gaiden is called 'Shadow Warriors' in Europe. However this is not case with the game 'Nintendo World Cup'. It's a fun soccer game for one to four players developed by Technos.  Most people though are calling this game 'World Cup Soccer' and I have no idea why. I know Mike Etler calls it that way on his list, but if that's the reason people call the game that way, I don't know.

I have the game myself (PAL) and have seen scans of the NTSC version, but I really didn't see the word 'soccer' on the label. The word 'Nintendo' was on both labels. Now people may call the game 'World Cup Soccer' just to show it is a soccer game, but why is it then that nobody is talking about 'Punch-Out!! Boxing', 'Tecmo Bowl Football', Double Dribble Basketball' and 'Blades of Steel Ice Hockey'? I have no idea why, but I needed something to rant about.

Oh, and in case you know another reason why the game is misnamed, please e-mail it to me.
