Interviews: Erik Hol

1. Will you tell us who you are?
My name is Erik Hol. I'm born in Rotterdam. I'm 22 years old and live in Tricht. That's a village in the surrounding of Geldermalsen. So I don't live far from the city where I work: Tiel.

2. What education did you get?
Just like Eva, I have done the MAVO. After that I wanted to find something in the direction of technology. First I did the LTS and after that the KMB. At a certain point I quit because - after that I've done practice at a metal factory - I didn't like the metal technology anymore. Because I had computers and video games as a hobby, I'm now glad to work at the Club Nintendo service line now.

3. Do you sport or do you have any hobbies?
Actually I don't sport. But I do have a big hobby. That's my car. I like to work on it, especially the sound installation I have made in it, I almost look like a driving disco! What I also like to do is going to house parties, big parties with good DJs.

4. Do you regularly listen to music? What's your favorite music? Which radio show is your favorite?
Looking at my answer from the last question you can easily write "yes", "yes" and "yes" again down. My favorite music? Prince makes that. I collect everything from him, also the so-called illegal CDs. Furthermore I, of course, like House, as long as it's not commercial. Robin Albers makes my favorite radio show: "For those who like to groove" and at certain times I want to listen to Jeroen van Inkel's radio shows.

5. Do you sometimes visit a pop concert?
The answer on his question is also a yes. I especially visit the concerts of Prince, also if he plays in Belgium, England or Germany. In Germany I even went out with the members of his band. Another one who I also like to see and hear is Lenny Kravitz. His music sounds a bit like Prince's music, that's why.

6. Is this your first job?
No, you couldn't say that. Before I came here to work at Club Nintendo, I have worked in the hotel and catering industry. As a waiter. At that time I always, of course, came very late (or actually very early) at home. Before I went sleeping, I played video games to relax.

7. Which game is in your opinion the hardest and why?
Those are several games. For Game Boy is "Boxxle" a very complicated puzzle, not so easy to do. For NES I find "Battle of Olympus" a beautiful, but hard adventure. "Zelda III" for the Super NES is also not easy. It's a new adventure of Link, in which Zelda and the evil Ganon play a big role too. "Zelda III" is really very long and you are, at least, a couple of exciting weeks, playing this game.

8. Which video game is in your opinion the most fun and why?
The most fun until now I find "Super Mario World". That's not only just a cartoon but also very varied. Look at it. There are 96 levels, so you can go anywhere with it.

9. What's your personal top 5 for the NES?
1. Super Mario III
2. Mario I
3. The Legend of Zelda
4. The Flintstones
5. The Simpsons

10. About which video games for Game Boy, NES and Super NES do you get the most questions?
For the Game Boy actually any game is getting many questions, but especially about "Boxxle". That doesn't surprise me. And for the NES about "The Legend of Zelda". This game has been released for quite a long time now and still many people are playing it. That's tells a lot, I think. Then I also receive many questions about Super Mario World. Actually that is because people still have to familiarize with the Super NES. Those are of course different than NES games. Anybody that starts with a Super NES game, actually has to read the manual very carefully. That one gives the answer on many questions that are now asked by phone. Do you have a problem with Super Mario World, read the manual first before you call, then you can proceed without losing time.
